Nat Geo Defender

About this piece

This build was inspired by the heavily modified and customized Land Rover Defenders used by National Geographic photographers in the 80s and 90s in places like the African savanna. These purpose-built vehicles often were gutted and refitted with roll cages and specialized platforms for cameras and photographers to stand on.

I started this project with a stock RC lexan truck body which I chopped and repainted, and built a custom cab interior and rear camera platforms for. It includes many handmade accessories constructed from found objects and household junk, like a microphone boom, hood mounted camera, a camping shower/water tank, and numerous other small gear and luggage items.
