Rolling Thunder

This Mercedes Unimog body was a kit ordered from an eBay seller in Asia, which arrived unassembled with no instructions and some mismatched hardware, in a damaged cardboard box that reeked of cigarette smoke--the perfect beginning to an epic journey of "figuring it out as you go".

Several months and countless hours later, I arrived at a convincing rendition of a police vehicle that has been reclaimed and repurposed as a traveling command center after a mass protest by those very protesters and anarchist revolutionaries.

In protests throughout the world where these vehicles are used for crowd control, they are often sprayed with paint and pelted with rocks and molotov cocktails by the crowds, all of which is depicted on this small scale replica.

The name Rolling Thunder is a reference to an anarchist magazine circulated in the early 2000s by the CrimethInc. Worker's Collective.
