Plein Air Landscape in Oil

If you've ever wanted to try out live, on-location landscape painting (called "plein air painting" in the art world), this is the introductory class for you. During a 4-6 hour outing, I will explain and demonstrate all of the fundamental skills needed to create a beautiful painting from direct observation. Time will also be spent before and after we begin to paint on any instruction or recap needed; the 4-6 hour class time does not include travel to and from the painting location. This class can be scheduled for either a late morning or mid afternoon time slot.

Having your own portable easel setup and materials is a requirement, and some prior painting experience with oils is recommended so that the naturally limited class time (the light is always changing outdoors!) can be devoted mostly to painting instruction rather than materials and equipment explanations. Although the 1 on 1, private class format is perfect for an artist looking for the maximum amount of instruction tailored specifically to their needs, this class can be modified for small groups of up to 4 students, so if you've got some friends interested as well, the price per student decreases slightly. For example, 2 or 3 students pay $300 each, and if 4 students will be attending, each pays only $200. These group size options and adjusted totals are reflected in your checkout price when purchasing.

After payment is received, you will be emailed the class syllabus and supplies list, and we will arrange a date, time, and outdoor location in the greater Austin, Texas area at which to meet for the class.
